Bengaluru: A serious case of negligence and reckless driving has come to light from Mahadevapura, where a drunk customer allegedly caused a multi-vehicle crash during a test drive of a Mahindra electric car.
According to police, showroom staff reportedly allowed the customer to take the vehicle for a test drive without verifying his condition. In a shocking lapse of safety protocol, the customer was allegedly blindfolded as part of the test drive experience and handed over the car without proper checks.
The accused, identified as Abhilash, was reportedly heavily intoxicated at the time. During the test drive, he drove recklessly and rammed into multiple vehicles, damaging at least four cars, including a Hyundai Creta.
In the incident, a pedestrian identified as Ramesh was also hit and sustained a serious leg injury. He is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
Following the crash, locals apprehended Abhilash and allegedly assaulted him before informing the police. He was later taken into custody by Mahadevapura Traffic Police and shifted to a hospital for treatment due to injuries sustained during the assault.
An FIR has been registered at the Mahadevapura Traffic Police Station. Police have issued a notice to the accused, and further investigation is underway.
Officials stated that Abhilash has been booked under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and Sections 125(a) and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The incident has raised serious concerns over showroom safety protocols and the responsibility of staff in ensuring that test drives are conducted under safe and verified conditions.
