Bengaluru: A tribal university will be built on 120 acres of land in Chitradurga, Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said.
The university is meant to provide a platform for research on the language, culture and way of life of tribal communities, and to prepare young people from these communities for jobs through skill-based education, he said.

Tribal university to bring communities into the mainstream
Bringing marginalised communities into the mainstream of society and ensuring development for all is the state government’s goal, the Chief Minister said, describing the project as the government’s firm resolve for the development of tribal communities.
From proposal to announcement
The Chief Minister’s remarks come a week after Scheduled Tribes Welfare Minister T Raghumurthy said a proposal for a tribal university on 120 acres near Chitradurga had been submitted, and that further steps would follow detailed discussions with the Chief Minister. Read the earlier report.
The Chief Minister did not give a timeline, cost or details of any formal approval for the university.
