Bengaluru: INDIA bloc parties in Karnataka will hold a large rally at Freedom Park in Bengaluru on November 5 against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, KPCC president B.K. Hariprasad said on Tuesday.
Speaking at a joint press conference with leaders of allied parties at the KPCC office on Queen’s Road, Hariprasad said the rally continues the protest the alliance held at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on November 1.
Protests to move to districts and taluks
INDIA bloc leaders decided in Delhi that the protests should be held at taluk and block levels across the country, he said. In Karnataka, the alliance will first protest in Bengaluru and then hold protests at district and taluk levels.
Hariprasad said the agitation, against what he called attempts by the BJP and RSS to undermine democracy by misusing constitutional institutions, would continue until Gyanesh Kumar resigns.
What the parties are demanding
CPI(M) secretary K. Prakash said the parties want the SIR scrapped, Gyanesh Kumar to resign, the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner to be made democratic in line with Supreme Court directions, and the law granting the CEC permanent immunity withdrawn. All parties will take part in the November 5 protest, and the agitation will later be decentralised across the state, he said.
CPI(M) leaders Sundaresh and Mahantesh, Forward Bloc’s Shivashankar and Ali, CPI(ML)’s Clifton D’Rozario and KPCC media and communication department chairman Ramesh Babu were present.
