Bengaluru: A tribal university on 120 acres near Chitradurga has been proposed to support the educational, social and economic development of tribal communities, Scheduled Tribes Welfare Minister T Raghumurthy said.
Speaking at a Valmiki Jayanti programme in Bengaluru, the minister said a proposal had already been submitted. Further steps would be taken after detailed discussions with the Chief Minister, he said.
Tribal university to focus on culture, research and skills
Raghumurthy said the proposed institution would offer opportunities to study tribal art, languages, literature, culture and traditional knowledge.
It would also encourage research into tribal communities’ ways of life and their social and economic development. Skills-based education and professional courses were envisaged to strengthen the capabilities needed for employment, he said.
Raghumurthy, who is also Chitradurga district in-charge minister, outlined the plan while speaking about measures for tribal communities’ development.
