Bengaluru: In a strong message to ensure accountability in waste management, Bengaluru Central City Municipal Commissioner Rajendra Cholan has warned of transfers and strict disciplinary action against officials and staff failing to perform their duties effectively.
Chairing a progress review meeting on solid waste management, the Commissioner emphasised that the Central City zone, being the heart of Bengaluru, must maintain high standards in daily garbage clearance. He directed officials to submit daily reports on waste management operations without fail.
Highlighting the issue of garbage accumulation, he instructed officials to identify and prepare a list of waste “black spots” and ensure their immediate clearance. He further stressed the need for permanent solutions to eliminate such spots from recurring.
The Commissioner also directed Deputy General Managers (DGMs) and Assistant General Managers (AGMs) to closely monitor sanitation workers assigned to each street and ensure they are discharging their responsibilities properly.
Expressing concern over repeated lapses despite prior warnings, Rajendra Cholan stated that officials and staff who continue to neglect their duties will face immediate transfers and stringent action without leniency.
He further instructed that auto tippers must adhere to fixed schedules for door-to-door garbage collection. Citizens should also be encouraged to hand over waste directly to collection vehicles instead of dumping it on roads.
To strengthen compliance, officials were asked to intensify public awareness campaigns, urging residents not to litter and to cooperate with the waste collection system.
Zonal Joint Commissioners of Zones 1 and 2 have been directed to conduct regular field inspections and submit detailed reports on waste management activities.
The meeting was attended by Chief Executive Officer of Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) Karigowda, Additional Commissioner (Revenue) K. Ranganath, Joint Commissioner Hemanth Sharan, Chief Engineer Vijay Kumar Haridas, along with senior engineers, DGMs, AGMs, marshals, supervisors, and junior health inspectors.
