₹2 Lakh Fine Imposed for Illegal Single-Use Plastic Storage in Govindarajanagar Ward
Bengaluru: The Solid Waste Management Division (BSWML) of the Bengaluru West City Corporation has taken strict action against illegal storage and trade of banned single-use plastic in Ward No. 126 (Maruti Mandir area) under the Govindarajanagar Assembly constituency.
During an inspection, officials found that Balaji Poly Pack, a plastic trading unit, was illegally storing and selling prohibited single-use plastic items along with NWPP bags. Acting on the violation, authorities imposed a fine of ₹2,00,000 (Rupees Two Lakh) on the trader.
The inspection revealed that the plastic trade operations were being carried out on Nagarabhavi Main Road, while a residential building located at 2nd Cross, Anubhav Nagar, Moodalapalya was being used as a warehouse for storing the banned materials.
Officials seized approximately 100 kilograms of banned single-use plastic items during the raid. The confiscated materials have been secured at the Ward 126 office, and the Assistant General Manager (AGM) has been informed. Further action will be taken by sending the seized plastic to KCDC for disposal.
Authorities have also issued a strict warning to the trader, directing them to refrain from such illegal activities in the future, as enforcement against banned plastic continues to be intensified across Bengaluru.
