Bengaluru, June 14: A 22-year-old woman from Sikkim, who was working as a receptionist at a salon in Bengaluru, was found murdered inside a rented house in Doddakannahalli under the Bellandur Police Station limits on Friday morning.

According to police, information about the murder was received at around 6 AM, following which Bellandur Police personnel immediately rushed to the spot. Senior officers, including the local inspector, visited the crime scene and initiated an investigation.

Preliminary inquiry revealed that the deceased was a native of Sikkim and was residing in a first-floor apartment in Doddakannahalli. She had been working as a receptionist at a salon in the area.

Police said the woman had been living with a male relative, believed to be her cousin, who has emerged as the prime suspect in the case.

Suspect Identified and Taken Into Custody

Investigators said the suspect had moved to Bengaluru approximately one month ago in search of employment. He was reportedly working in a nearby hotel as a cook’s assistant and waiter.

According to preliminary findings, an argument broke out between the two on Friday morning. Police suspect the dispute may have been linked to personal issues, although the exact motive is yet to be established.

During the altercation, the suspect allegedly used a kitchen knife and attacked the woman, inflicting fatal injuries to her neck.

Based on evidence collected from the crime scene, police identified the suspect and launched a search operation. Officers said he was detained while allegedly attempting to flee.

Both Had Come to Bengaluru from Sikkim

Police said both the deceased and the suspect are natives of Sikkim and were known to each other before coming to Bengaluru.

Preliminary investigation suggests that they had been living and working together in Sikkim for nearly a year before relocating to Bengaluru in search of employment opportunities.

The suspect had been staying at the victim’s residence for the past month after arriving in the city.

Investigation Underway

Police are currently recording statements from relatives, friends and acquaintances to determine the exact nature of the relationship between the deceased and the accused.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and Bellandur Police have registered a case and initiated further investigation.

Officials said more details regarding the motive and circumstances leading to the murder are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
