Rs. 8,000 cr saved by detecting fake house-related documents: CM

At a review meeting of the Housing Department on Monday, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said Rs 10,194 crore had been allocated for construction of 9.74 lakh houses for the needy. He said the government had saved Rs. 8,000 crore with the detection of fake documents, and instructed officials to use the VigilApp software to prevent misuse of grants.

The CM instructed the authorities to hand over 405 houses that have been completed under the Kodagu Rehabilitation Programme to the beneficiaries at the earliest.

Housing Minister V Somanna said Rs. 1,000 crore is needed to construct 1.24 lakh dwellings for the rural poor. He said the merger of Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation with the Slum Development Board could be a solution to the problems of slums.

The Karnataka Housing Board will develop the Prime Minister’s Housing Project in Anekal taluk’s Jigani and Kasaba hoblis at an estimated cost of Rs 1,264 crore.

More than 4,000 complaints have been lodged with the Karnataka Real Estate Regulatory Authority and over 700 complaints have been disposed of, officials said.

Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Chief Secretary T.M. Vijay Bhaskar, Finance Department additional chief secretary ISN Prasad, Housing Department Secretary Manoj Kumar Meena were present at the meeting.
