All proceeds from ‘Kala Nidhi’ will go directly to accounts of pandemic-hit performance artistes

BENGALURU:

In a bid to support artistes in this pandemic-hit time, MP from Bengaluru South Tejasvi Surya on Thursday announced Kala Nidhi 2021, a fund-raiser concert by artistes on social media platforms from June 25 to 27.

Kala Nidhi 2021 will see top artistes deliver free online concerts for open viewing of the public. The event is supported by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Dr Ashwath Narayan, while all the concerts and line-ups have been curated by renowned singer Vijay Prakash.

Sonu Nigam to perform

The musical performances will be streamed on the Facebook pages of Surya, Vijay Prakash and ShaaleDotCom in the evenings from June 25 to 27. Kala Nidhi will culminate in an exclusive performance by one of the country’s leading singers, Sonu Nigam, on June 27. Other artistes who will perform in the fund-raiser include Vijay Prakash, Arjun Janya, Gurukiran, Rajesh Krishnan, Raghu Dixit, Arun Kumar and Anuradha Bhat. Some of the country’s top classical musicians like Vidyabhushana, Puttur Narasimha Nayak and Anoor Anantha Krishna Sharma will also perform during the event.

Will uplift spirits: Tejasvi Surya

“In difficult times like these, art gives strength to humanity to surmount challenges,” Surya said in a statement. “But the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic has hit art and performance artistes hard. If art has to thrive, artistes have to survive. Kala Nidhi 2021 is a platform where artistes have come together to support the livelihoods of their fellow performance artistes by delivering musical performances. Kala Nidhi 2021 also promises to provide a fillip to the artiste community and uplift the spirits of citizens during this difficult time.”

A fund-raiser page has been created on Milaap to facilitate donations, accessible on bit.ly/kalanidhi2021. The proceeds from the programme will be directly transferred to over 100 beneficiary performance artistes who are nominated by fellow-performance artistes.

Karnataka DyCM’s support

“Music offers comfort to our minds during stressful times and it’s well known how adversely the Covid-19 pandemic affected all of us,” Dr Ashwath Narayan said in a statement. “Kala Nidhi 2021 has been organized to liven the mood of the public through music and also support the livelihood of the person who is practicing that art. We are hoping to support as many artistes as possible with the help of the public.”

Vijay Prakash, who has helped coordinate the event along with singers and musical composers, expressed his gratitude to the performers for coming forward to help their fellow artistes. “Kala Nidhi is a brilliant concept wherein artistes perform to draw support for other struggling artistes in a platform set up by artistes themselves. It is so inspiring to see the country’s most excellent artistes like Sonu Nigam and others help Karnataka’s performance artistes get back on their feet. We are also thankful for the support of Deputy CM Dr Ashwath Narayan and Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya in promoting art and artistes.”
