Man hacked to death by gang of five near Mysuru, rivalry suspected

MYSURU: A man was brutally hacked to death by a group of five people in front of a hotel on the outskirts of Varuna village in Mysuru taluk in the wee hours on Monday. The victim was identified as Karthik, a resident of Kyathamaranahalli in Mysuru.

CCTV footage shows a groups of five men hacking Karthik to death.

In CCTV footage, Karthik can be seen parking his Mahindra Thar in the parking lot of the hotel and get off his vehicle when two men arrive on a two-wheeler and pick an argument with him. One of them suddenly shoves Karthik to the ground when three other men arrive in a MUV and all five hack Karthik to death. One of them can even be seen filming and taking pictures of the victim.

According to police sources, Karthik, a history-sheeter, had a financial dispute with Praveen, a resident of Gayathripuram. Karthik had reportedly threatened Praveen of killing him about 4-5 months ago. Police suspect that Karthik may have been murdered due to fear that he may kill Praveen.

Police said Karthik had been earlier jailed in an attempted murder which occurred at Chikkahalli and was out on bail. Further investigations are under way.
