Bengaluru | Woman’s Body Discovered in Suitcase, Husband Arrested in Pune
Bengaluru: Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said on Monday he has told Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) office-bearers to reduce the price of curd. He also said the Transport Department has been told to take the final decision on a bus fare hike.
“I have instructed the KMF office-bearers, who came to congratulate me, to reduce the price of curd,” he told reporters near the National Gallery of Modern Art. The release does not give a new curd price or date.
Asked about price differences among milk variants, he said the price of milk with higher fat content has gone up, and that officials will give a full explanation.
“No one speaks up when the price of bottled water rises because the GST goes to the Union Government. Increasing milk prices will help 11 lakh farmer families,” he said.
Bus fares
Shivakumar said higher petrol and diesel prices have made daily diesel costs difficult to bear, so special grants will keep transport running. Buses will run on a new calculation in areas with low bus traffic, he said.
Contractors’ dues
Asked about three demands from contractors’ association office-bearers, he said ₹38,000 crore is pending. He said works from the last six months of former Chief Minister Yediyurappa’s tenure remain pending, Public Works Department bills in Bengaluru are being cleared, and many bills are pending for Kaveri irrigation project works. A few of the association’s demands have been accepted, he said.
He also said he will travel to Hiriyur on Tuesday to inaugurate various projects, and that preparing for by-elections is his duty.
What the milk unions said
KMF and district milk union office-bearers met the Chief Minister at his official residence, Krishna, on Monday afternoon to felicitate him.
BAMUL President D K Suresh said daily milk production in the state is 1.15 crore litres. He said the hike will support 11 lakh farmer families and 25 lakh milk sellers, and that most of it benefits farmers, with only 60 paise remaining with the union.
Suresh said Tamil Nadu has raised prices by ₹12, milk prices are higher in the states where Nandini products are sold, and Amul has also raised prices. Around 20 lakh litres go to other states, he said.
