 BENGALURU:  

A centralized system to monitor bodily vitals, an anti-mIcrobial module for ACs, and immunity-boosting products are among the Covid-fighting innovations launched on Thursday by Deputy Chief Minister CN Ashwath Narayan, who is also Minister for IT, BT, Science and Technology. 

The products have been developed by start-ups at the Bangalore Bio-innovation Centre (BBC), an initiative of Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society (KITS), Department of Electronics, IT, BT and S&T. 

Dr EV  Ramana Reddy, Additional Chief Secretary to the Department of Electronics, IT, BT and S&T, and chairman, BBC, said, “We are very proud to launch these technologies and products at the right time to fight the pandemic.” 

Prof K. Vijay Raghavan, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Prime Minister, said, ”BBC’s partnership with IIM-Bangalore should help these start-ups in scaling up their products.”   

Dr Jitendra Kumar, Managing Director of BBC, said, “The start-ups have developed these products in a short time. This demonstrates that the Incubation, facilitation, funding and ecosystem building efforts by BBC are bearing fruit.” 

Meena Nagaraj, Director, Directorate of Electronics, IT/BT and Managing Director, Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society (KITS), said, “I assure these start-ups of all possible support in facilitating marketing and distribution.”  

BBC-IIM pact   

The occasion saw the signing of an MoU between IIM, Bengaluru  and BBC.  Prof K Kumar, Dean, IIM, said the expertise of IIM would help in access to venture capital for the start-ups.  

The products  

Padma Vitals: Developed by Dr Madan Gopal of Cardiac Design Labs, Padma Vitals is a  contactless centralized monitoring system for ECG, respiration, Spo2 and body temperature.  

Malli’s Cordytea: Developed by Dr. Moushmi Mondal from Mallipatra Neutraceuticals, it is an  Immunity booster tea prepared from medicinal mushroom.  

CD4 Shield: Developed by Dr Vijay Lanka and his team from Stabicon, it is a chewable tablet containing curcumin and Vitamin B12. Both ingredients fight inflammation and infection.   

BeamRoti : Developed by Dr  Srinivas from Aspartika, it is an immunity booster chapati having a mixture of herbs recommended by the AYUSH ministry.  

Immune booster daily drops: Developed by Dr. Srinivas from Aspartika, it is an immunity booster drop having a mixture of herbs recommended by the AYUSH ministry.  

VegPhal:  Developed by Deepak Bhajantri from Krimmi Biotech, this fruit and vegetable sanitizer is chorine- and alcohol-free. 

Water Sanitizer: Developed by Ravi Kumar from Biofi, it is a miniaturized version of a UV purifier that can be attached to a water tap. 

Anti-Microbial HVAC module:  Developed by Ravi Kumar from Biofi, it can be fitted to an HVAC system to ensure circulating air is sanitized. It is based on UV-silver titanium dioxide technology.
