Lokayukta Finds Government Revenue Records at Private Farmhouse in Kolar; Orders Preliminary Inquiry
Bengaluru, July 23: The Karnataka Lokayukta has ordered a preliminary inquiry after a large number of original government revenue records were allegedly found at a private farmhouse in Kolar district, raising concerns over the unauthorised removal and possible misuse of official land documents.
According to a Lokayukta press release, the action follows a report submitted by the Kolar Lokayukta Police regarding alleged irregularities in the offices of the Tahsildars of Kolar and Malur and the Assistant Directors of Land Records. Acting on the report, the Lokayukta initiated suo motu proceedings and authorised searches at government offices and private premises.
During the searches, officials seized 435 revenue-related documents, including 128 original government records such as grant registers, patta books, khata registers, phodi records and other official land documents. Investigators suspect the records had been removed from government offices and stored at a private farmhouse for preparing fraudulent land-related documents.
The Lokayukta said the documents are being scrutinised with the assistance of Revenue Department officials. District authorities have been directed to explain how the original records went missing from government custody and identify those responsible.
The investigation report states that fraudulent records relating to nearly 485 acres of government land may have been created, allegedly causing an estimated loss of about Rs 768 crore to the state exchequer. The Lokayukta observed that the matter requires a comprehensive probe and has scheduled a preliminary inquiry for August 21, 2026, at 3.30 pm in the presence of senior Revenue Department officials.
