Bengaluru: Karnataka plans to establish 10,000 Bharat Jodo Youth Clubs across the state to identify young talent and create opportunities in sports, arts and leadership, Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar said at Yuva Dasara in Mysuru on October 18.
He said 100 to 300 young people in every ward could become members by paying a ₹10 membership fee. The clubs would seek to identify their abilities and help them develop for opportunities at the state, national and international levels.
Platform for sports, arts and leadership
“Youth are the strength of the nation,” Shivakumar said, urging young people to develop their sporting talent, artistic interests and leadership qualities rather than remain spectators.
He said Yuva Dasara was intended to provide a platform for those interested in sports, art, literature, music and culture, and called on the youth to contribute to society.
Dasara and cultural unity
Shivakumar described Mysuru Dasara as a festival reflecting Karnataka’s heritage, art, culture and national unity. He welcomed the participation of personnel from the Army, Air Force and Navy in the Dasara events.
Film artists and Film Chamber of Commerce representatives had also been invited, with several assuring their participation, he said.
Recalling the encouragement given to art, sports and culture by the Mysuru rulers, he said Dasara had grown from the Vijayanagara era into the state’s historic and cultural identity. He urged people from all communities to celebrate together.
The government would extend all necessary support to the festival, he said, describing it as a platform for unity, integrity and peace. Referring to D. V. Gundappa’s Mankuthimmana Kagga, he urged young people to live happily and help others do the same.
