App data on infected persons is secure, claims Dr.K.Sudhakar

BENGALURU:

Making a sales pitch for the Centre’s ‘Aarogya Setu’ mobile application, Medical Education Minister said it is effective in controlling the spread of the coronavirus and should be used more widely. Speaking at a news conference on Thursday, he noted that is mandatory for all government staff to use the application.

More than 10 crore people have already downloaded it. The app has been designed using artificial intelligence and high- level algorithms to provide real-time information about infected persons, he said.

Around 63 lakh people have already downloaded the app in Karnataka, of whom 2,255 users were red-flagged through the self-test feature. All of them were messaged to get tested. Of the 233 people tested, 17 were found positive, i.e., 7.5%, compared to the national average of 30%.

Urging smartphone users to download the app, Dr Sudhakar said people need not panic as the data on positive patients is held by district task force heads. The application is safe to use and is controlled fully by the Government of India using high-level confidential protocols, he added.
