New Delhi: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) said a nationwide enforcement drive across states and Union Territories between September 1 and November 5, 2026 covered 56,431 food establishments, leading to 10,047 improvement notices and the suspension of 1,133 food licences.
The authority said the festive-season inspections, carried out with State Food Safety Authorities, were aimed at substandard practices and at maintaining safety standards across the food ecosystem.
Besides the suspensions, 52 licences were cancelled and 314 establishments were sealed, according to figures released by FSSAI.
Food safety officials collected 43,939 samples during the drive. Of these, 23,648 were analysed, 2,273 were found to be non-compliant, and 410 prosecutions were initiated, FSSAI said.
Authorities seized 3,279.57 metric tonnes of food products worth an estimated Rs 81.80 crore, in what FSSAI described as enforcement action against banned and non-compliant food products.
The seized products ranged from everyday essentials to festive foods, including oils, milk and paneer; sweets, khoya and ghee; bakery items and chocolates; ice creams and namkeen; and packaged foods and festive hampers.
FSSAI did not release a state-wise break-up of the figures. It said it would continue to work with State Food Safety Authorities to ensure greater adherence to prescribed food safety standards.
