Bengaluru Airport: From 10:45 AM on August 31, all international flights will operate from T2
Bengaluru: Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) said on Saturday that Kannadigas constitute the majority of the workforce at Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (KIAB), and that it is aware of concerns raised about local employment opportunities at the airport and is engaging with the relevant authorities and stakeholders to address them. BIAL posted the statement, in English and Kannada, on the airport’s official X account.
BIAL said KIAB is deeply rooted in Karnataka, with the state’s identity, culture and aspirations reflected across the airport through its art, architecture, design and passenger experiences. Since it began operations in 2008, the airport has contributed to Karnataka’s economic growth and development by creating employment opportunities and supporting a wider ecosystem of businesses, partners and service providers, it said.
The statement said the Government of Karnataka is a key stakeholder in BIAL, which reflects its partnership in the airport’s growth and development. It said that as the airport continues to grow and expand, it will generate further opportunities for Kannadigas across multiple sectors.
“We remain committed to contributing to Karnataka’s progress and enabling opportunities for its people,” BIAL said. The statement gave no hiring figures and did not name any organisation or individual.
The statement comes after concerns over the representation of Kannadigas in airport jobs. Karnataka Rakshana Vedike leader T.A. Narayana Gowda said on Friday that he visited the airport and sought fair employment opportunities for Kannadigas at a meeting with representatives of 14 organisations operating there.
