Heavy Rain, Hailstorm Lash Bengaluru; Traffic Chaos and Tree Falls Reported Across City
Bengaluru, May 21: Several parts of Bengaluru witnessed heavy rain accompanied by hailstorms on Tuesday evening, triggering traffic congestion, tree falls and widespread disruption across the city.
Areas including Vijayanagar, Shantinagar, Lalbagh, Cubbon Park, KR Market, Jayanagar, Rajajinagar, Vasanth Nagar, Mysuru Road, Magadi Road, Basaveshwar Nagar, Malleswaram, Majestic and Wilson Garden received intense rainfall.
Hailstorm Hits Bengaluru Again
The city once again experienced hailstorm conditions during the evening showers. Residents reported hailstones in multiple localities, similar to the intense hailstorm witnessed earlier this season during Bengaluru’s first major rainfall spell.
Massive Traffic Congestion Across City
Heavy rain during peak evening hours resulted in severe traffic congestion across several major roads and junctions.
Commuters, especially two-wheeler riders, faced major difficulties as waterlogging and reduced visibility slowed vehicular movement across multiple areas.
Traffic movement was severely affected in:
- Richmond Town
- Majestic
- Mysuru Road
- Magadi Road
- Rajajinagar
- Shantinagar
- Central Bengaluru stretches
Tree Fall Damages Vehicles in Rajajinagar
In Rajajinagar, a large tree collapsed due to strong winds and heavy rain, damaging parked cars and two-wheelers.
Visuals from the area showed vehicles crushed under fallen branches. It was not immediately clear whether anyone was inside the vehicles at the time of the incident.
Citizens Raise Concerns Over Civic Negligence
Residents expressed anger over recurring rain-related incidents in Bengaluru, alleging that despite repeated warnings, authorities have failed to address dangerous trees, potholes and weak infrastructure.
Locals pointed out that:
- Trees continue to collapse during every major rain spell
- Roads become waterlogged within minutes
- Potholes turn hazardous for motorists
- Traffic management collapses during rain
Half an Hour of Rain Brings City to Standstill
Citizens said even 30 minutes of rain is enough to throw Bengaluru’s traffic and civic systems into chaos.
Motorists complained that during heavy rain it becomes difficult to distinguish between roads, potholes and footpaths due to water accumulation across roads.
The latest spell of rain once again exposed Bengaluru’s recurring monsoon vulnerabilities as commuters struggled to navigate flooded roads and traffic snarls across the city.
