Youth Congress Protests in Bengaluru Over NEET Irregularities, Attempts Lok Bhavan Siege
Bengaluru, May 21: Karnataka Youth Congress workers staged a massive protest at Freedom Park in Bengaluru on Tuesday condemning alleged irregularities in the NEET examination and demanding accountability from the Central Government.
Following the protest meeting at Freedom Park, hundreds of Youth Congress workers attempted to march towards Lok Bhavan and lay siege to the government premises. Police personnel intervened and stopped the protesters before they could proceed further.
Police Detain Protesters
As tensions escalated, police blocked roads near Freedom Park and attempted to disperse the protesters. Several Youth Congress workers climbed barricades and raised slogans against the Centre, following which police detained multiple protesters and shifted them in BMTC buses.
The protest witnessed participation from thousands of Youth Congress workers and senior Congress leaders.
Siddaramaiah, Surjewala Participate
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala and several state ministers participated in the protest and criticised the Central Government over the NEET controversy.
Protesters alleged:
- Irregularities and paper leak in the NEET examination
- Failure of the Union Government in protecting students’ interests
- Negligence in safeguarding national interests
- Failure of foreign policy initiatives
CM Siddaramaiah Demands Minister’s Resignation
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET controversy.
He stated that merely postponing examinations or announcing re-examinations would not solve the issue and demanded accountability from the Centre.
Siddaramaiah also urged the Union Education Minister to publicly apologise to students who appeared for the NEET examination across the country.
The protest created heavy commotion near Freedom Park and surrounding areas as police tightened security to prevent escalation.
