Gruha Jyoti Beneficiary Verification to Begin from July 1; ESCOM Staff to Conduct Door-to-Door Survey Across Karnataka
Bengaluru, June 30: The Karnataka Government will begin a door-to-door verification of beneficiaries under its flagship Gruha Jyoti (GJY) scheme from July 1, with staff from all Electricity Supply Companies (ESCOMs) visiting households across the state.
The verification drive is part of a review of the Gruha Jyoti scheme, which was launched in July 2023. During the exercise, ESCOM meter readers and other field staff will visit consumers’ residences to verify beneficiary records, collect updated information and complete the application process through a mobile application and a declaration form.
BESCOM has requested consumers to keep the required documents ready during the home visit. Beneficiaries may be asked to produce their Aadhaar Card, passport-size photograph, Voter ID, PAN Card, rental agreement (where applicable), ration card and caste certificate for verification.
The Energy Department said that on-site verification by meter readers is the only approved method for completing the beneficiary review. Consumers and beneficiaries have been urged to extend full cooperation to ESCOM personnel to ensure the verification process is completed smoothly.
The verification exercise will be carried out across the jurisdictions of the state’s five ESCOMs — BESCOM, HESCOM, MESCOM, JESCOM and CESC.
