European Union finance ministers have endorsed a proposal aimed at leveraging the bloc’s revised fiscal guidelines to enhance defence expenditure, while steering clear of punitive measures for excessive borrowing. The decision comes in the aftermath of an EU summit agreeing to augment defence budgets by at least 800 billion euros within four years, particularly following U.S. President Donald Trump’s halt in military assistance to Ukraine.
