Bengaluru: Residents of Kariyannapalya near Banashankari Sixth Stage spent a tense night after a leopard was spotted near the forest edge on Saturday evening, triggering fresh concerns over repeated wildlife sightings in the area.
According to local residents, the leopard was seen between 6.30 pm and 7 pm near the edge of Turahalli Forest, close to a residential layout. The animal reportedly remained in the area for some time and was also seen targeting stray dogs.
Residents immediately alerted the Forest Department, whose personnel reached the spot within minutes. Officials burst firecrackers in an attempt to drive the leopard back into the forest and continued the operation late into the night. However, the animal was not captured.
Locals said leopard sightings have been reported several times over the past few months in the area, with an earlier incident involving a stray dog being taken away. Warning boards have been put up advising people not to venture near the forest edge and not to feed stray dogs.
Residents have urged the Forest Department to strengthen protective measures, including raising the compound wall along the forest boundary, and to implement a permanent solution to prevent the leopard from entering residential areas. The Forest Department continued monitoring the area following the latest sighting.
