Bengaluru, July 26: East Bengaluru City Corporation Commissioner D.S. Ramesh, along with Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Karthik Reddy, conducted inspections at several major traffic junctions across the corporation limits and directed officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan to reduce traffic congestion and improve road safety.

During the inspections, the officials reviewed proposals for permanent traffic management measures, including road infrastructure upgrades, underpasses, road widening, free left turns, skywalks, buffer roads and the relocation of utilities belonging to various departments.

Hope Farm underpass work to be expedited

Inspecting the ongoing underpass project at Hope Farm Junction, one of Bengaluru’s busiest intersections, the commissioner directed officials to remove all bottlenecks and ensure completion of the project within the stipulated timeline.

He instructed officials to coordinate with GAIL, BESCOM and other agencies to immediately relocate gas pipelines, power lines, transformers and other utilities obstructing the project. The contractor was directed to accelerate work by deploying three shifts.

Officials were also instructed to temporarily asphalt damaged stretches caused by construction to facilitate smooth traffic movement and coordinate with the Traffic Police to provide diversions wherever required to minimise inconvenience to commuters.

Railway underpass proposal for Alpine Eco Road

The commissioner inspected traffic congestion on the stretch connecting Alpine Eco Road to the Outer Ring Road service road and observed that motorists were forced to take longer routes, resulting in avoidable delays.

He directed officials to examine the technical feasibility of constructing a railway underpass as a permanent solution and prepare a detailed report covering land ownership, survey details and land acquisition requirements.

Skywalk and free left turn proposed at Marathahalli Junction

At Marathahalli Junction, officials inspected the proposed location for a skywalk to improve pedestrian safety for people crossing from the HAL Road side.

They also reviewed the feasibility of introducing a free left turn from Varthur Kodi towards the Outer Ring Road to ease traffic congestion and directed officials to undertake the required technical studies.

Buffer road planned near Vibgyor School, Thubarahalli

The commissioner inspected the narrow Thubarahalli–Vibgyor School Road, where traffic congestion has become a recurring issue. Officials informed him that B-SMILE is preparing a Detailed Project Report for a proposed parallel buffer road to improve traffic flow, and steps would be taken to implement the project at the earliest.

Road widening planned at Panathur S-Cross

Inspecting congestion near the railway underpass at Panathur S-Cross, the commissioner discussed acquiring the required private land to widen the road and provide a direct connection at the junction. Officials were directed to submit an early report on land acquisition and technical feasibility.

Free left turn proposed at Boganahalli Road

Officials were instructed to examine the feasibility of introducing a free left turn at the Boganahalli Road junction to facilitate smoother vehicle movement and reduce congestion. A detailed technical study has been sought before implementation.

Speaking during the inspection, D.S. Ramesh said the corporation would prioritise permanent infrastructure projects through coordinated efforts involving the Traffic Police, BESCOM, GAIL, Railways and other utility agencies to address congestion at major junctions across East Bengaluru.

He said providing safe, fast and seamless mobility for the public remains a key priority of the corporation and directed officials to closely monitor the progress of all projects to ensure their completion within the prescribed timelines.

Joint Commissioner of Police Karthik Reddy, Additional Commissioner (Development) Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar, Deputy Commissioner of Police Sahil Bagla, Chief Engineer Lokesh M., officials of the TDR division and representatives of various departments were present during the inspections.
