Bengaluru: DK Shivakumar has made significant contributions in bringing the Congress party to power in Karnataka, but any talk of changing the leadership at this point is unwarranted, said MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters in Gadag, Yathindra, who is also the son of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, acknowledged that although Shivakumar played a major role, he has not been given a position that fully reflects his contribution.
“DK Shivakumar Sir’s contribution to the party is undeniable. As KPCC president, he worked tirelessly to revive the party when we were in opposition. He organised various impactful campaigns, including Mekedatu padayatra and the ‘Congress for Every Home’ initiative, which helped strengthen the party across the state,” Yathindra said.
He further stated that Shivakumar did not take a break during the party’s five years in opposition and continued to build the organisational structure. “The high command, however, decided to appoint Siddaramaiah as the Chief Minister based on the opinion of the majority of MLAs. Hence, there is no question of leadership change now,” he clarified.
Yathindra also urged party members and others to refrain from speculating or commenting unnecessarily on the matter, reiterating that the Congress high command has made its stand clear.
The statement comes amid ongoing political discussions around power-sharing and leadership in the state unit of the Congress.
