BENGALURU:
Central Crime Branch sleuths arrested Pulakeshinagar ward’s former corporator Abdul Rakib Zakir on Wednesday night. Accused in the August 11 DJ Halli riots, Zakir had been evading arrest since then.
He has been charged with instigating a mob to set fire to Congress MLA Akhand Srinivas Murthy’s house on the night of the riots.
The CCB arrested former Congress mayor R Sampath Raj last month. Sampath Raj is also accused in the burning down of the MLA’s house. Both Zakir and Sampath are associates and key figures in the local Congress unit in Pulakeshinagar.
