Bengaluru: Bengaluru East City Corporation has ordered immediate removal of silt and mud at the Panathur S-Cross railway underpass, checks on its water pumps and cleanup of the Munnekollal stormwater drain after rainwater stagnation caused difficulties for residents and motorists in low-lying areas.
Additional Commissioner Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar issued the directions during inspections across the corporation’s limits, according to the civic body.
Keep underpass pumps operational
At the Panathur underpass, ward officials were instructed to clear accumulated silt and mud immediately and keep the installed water-pumping systems operational. Any technical faults in the pumps must be repaired promptly to prevent water from stagnating.
Officials were also directed to clean the manholes connected to the drainage system installed by K-RIDE and remove the silt and mud inside them.
Drain works and road connectivity
In the B-Smile Buffer Road area, the additional commissioner asked officials to identify obstructions to rainwater flow and construct suitable drains wherever required.
At Munnekollal, the directions covered immediate removal of mud, silt and waste from the stormwater drain, followed by regular monitoring to prevent fresh accumulation. Officials were also asked to identify gaps in road connectivity and prioritise necessary connecting-road works.
Alternative access during Kroma Road works
Following public objections over access difficulties caused by ongoing drain work in the Kroma Road area, Sudhakar directed that the work continue and be completed quickly. Officials were asked to examine alternative road or traffic arrangements during construction and take measures to protect public safety.
The corporation said departments must coordinate drainage maintenance and road access while responding promptly to local problems. Railway officials, stormwater drain division officials and other concerned officers took part in the inspections.
