Bengaluru: The India Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers, heavy at times, with gusty winds of 30–40 kmph in Bengaluru city and its neighbourhood through the morning of September 23.
In its daily weather report, the Meteorological Centre, Bengaluru, forecast generally cloudy skies and maximum and minimum temperatures of around 30°C and 21°C respectively for both the next 24 and 48 hours.
Afternoon thunderstorm alert valid until 7 pm
A separate nowcast issued at 4 pm IST on September 21 warned of light to moderate rain or thunderstorms with gusty winds of 30–40 kmph at isolated places in Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural and several other Karnataka districts. The three-hour alert is valid until 7 pm IST on September 21.
Nearby districts covered by the nowcast include Chikkaballapura, Kolar, Tumakuru, Ramanagara, Mandya and Mysuru. IMD said possible impacts included temporary power disruption, minor traffic snarls, damage to unsecured structures and weak tree branches, and damage to harvested crops left in the open.
The department advised people to take safe shelter during thunderstorms, avoid sheltering under trees and drive carefully.
Heavy spells possible on September 21 and 22
The daily district forecast places Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural among the districts where heavy rain or thundershowers with gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are likely at one or two places on September 21 and 22.
For September 23 and 24, the forecast for the two Bengaluru districts is light to moderate rain or thundershowers at many places. Heavy rain is again likely at one or two places on September 25, according to IMD.
City recorded 0.6 mm in the preceding 24 hours
Bengaluru city recorded 0.6 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am IST on September 21. Kempegowda International Airport and HAL Airport recorded trace rainfall over the same period.
The city’s maximum and minimum temperatures were 28.3°C and 20.9°C respectively, while relative humidity at 8.30 am was 91%, according to the daily report issued by the Meteorological Centre, Bengaluru, headed by scientist N. Puviarasan.
