Bengaluru: In the wake of a tragic stampede that claimed the lives of 11 individuals during the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) IPL victory celebrations, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ordered the suspension of the Bengaluru police commissioner B Dayananda (1994 batch), Vikash Kumar Vikash, IPS, Inspector General & Additional Commissioner of Police, West, Bengaluru City, Shekar H Tekkannavar, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Division, Bengaluru City, C Balakrishna, Asst commissioner of Police, Cubbon Park and A K Girish, Police Inspector, Cubbon Park Police Station.
The Chief Minister has also mandated the arrest of representatives from RCB, DNA Event Managers, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). The investigation into the incident has been entrusted to a one-man judicial commission led by retired Karnataka High Court Justice Michael Cunha.
The stampede occurred on Wednesday evening outside Chinnaswamy Stadium, where a large crowd had gathered to celebrate RCB’s recent success in the Indian Premier League.

“Today, the cabinet convened to thoroughly discuss the tragic events of yesterday. In light of our discussions, we have decided to assign the investigation to a one-man judicial commission headed by Justice Michael Cunha, with a directive to submit a report within 30 days,” Siddaramaiah stated during a press briefing following the cabinet meeting.
The Chief Minister further instructed the Director General of Police (DGP) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to take immediate action against the representatives of RCB, DNA Event Managers, and KSCA.
“The cabinet has also resolved to suspend the Circle Police Inspector of the Cubbon Park Police Station, the Assistant Commissioner of Police for that area, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the central zone, and the Additional Commissioner of Police responsible for stadium security, along with the Commissioner of Police for Bengaluru city,” he added.
This decisive action underscores the government’s commitment to accountability and ensuring the safety of citizens during large public events.
