Bengaluru: In a significant administrative shift, senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Seemanth Kumar Singh has been appointed as the new Police Commissioner of Bengaluru, effective immediately, according to an official notification released on Thursday.
This appointment follows the suspension of former Police Commissioner B. Dayananda by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who cited dereliction of duty in connection with a tragic stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday. The incident resulted in the loss of 11 lives and left over 50 individuals injured.

The official notification detailed, “Seemanth Kumar Singh, IPS (KN: 1996), previously serving as the Additional Director General of Police for the Bengaluru Metropolitan Task Force, is hereby transferred and appointed as the Additional Director General of Police and Commissioner of Police for Bengaluru City until further notice.”
Singh’s extensive experience in law enforcement is expected to play a crucial role in addressing the challenges facing Bengaluru’s police force in the wake of this incident.
