Bengaluru: A citywide enforcement operation checked 1,530 establishments, including 522 hotels, 893 pubs and bars, 62 dance bars and 53 recreation clubs, Home Minister Priyank Kharge said.

The drive resulted in nearly 300 petty cases and more than 350 cases under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), according to Kharge. Action was also taken under the Excise Act and Karnataka Police Act, alongside noise-pollution cases and other FIRs.

Kharge said the enforcement drives would continue with a focus on public safety, licensing conditions and neighbourhood nuisance. Establishments would be expected to operate responsibly and comply with the law.
