Ashwini Vaishnaw Inaugurates High-Speed Rail Facility ‘Aditya’ at BEML Bengaluru, Boosts India’s Indigenous Rail Tech
Bengaluru: Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & IT Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday inaugurated ‘Aditya’, a dedicated high-speed rail manufacturing facility at BEML’s Tipperasandra campus in Bengaluru, marking a major step in India’s push for indigenous railway technology.
Speaking at the event, the Minister said that high-speed rail technology represents one of the most complex and advanced engineering domains, and its indigenous development is a significant milestone for India’s engineering and manufacturing capabilities.
The newly launched ‘Aditya’ complex has been specifically designed for the development of B-28 category coaches, which are expected to play a key role in India’s future high-speed rail ecosystem.
Highlighting the transformative impact of high-speed trains, Vaishnaw said they would drastically reduce travel time between major cities, effectively integrating them into a unified economic and urban network. He noted that travel time between Chennai and Bengaluru could come down to just 73 minutes, underlining the potential of such projects.
Strengthening Rail Connectivity
The Minister also announced plans to enhance connectivity between key regions:
- A new Mail/Express train with LHB coaches via Hubballi will be introduced to strengthen Mumbai–Bengaluru connectivity
- The Vande Bharat Sleeper Express is expected to be launched soon
- A Vande Bharat service between Mangaluru and Bengaluru will also be introduced shortly
He added that before rolling out the Mangaluru–Bengaluru service, authorities are considering linking Madgaon and other coastal Karnataka cities to further expand regional connectivity.
Overcoming Technical Challenges
Vaishnaw highlighted that key infrastructure hurdles have been addressed, including:
- Completion of electrification on the Hassan–Mangaluru section
- Installation of Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) systems to improve safety in challenging coastal terrains
These advancements are expected to significantly improve operational efficiency and safety.
Boost to ‘Developed India’ Vision
Praising the engineering capabilities of the BEML Tipperasandra unit, the Minister said its contribution to next-generation rolling stock will be crucial in building a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India).
He also reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that infrastructure development is balanced with environmental protection and public awareness, emphasizing sustainable growth alongside technological progress.
The inauguration of the ‘Aditya’ facility is seen as a major milestone in India’s journey towards self-reliant, high-speed rail infrastructure and advanced mobility solutions.
