‘Schools continue to demand fees’

The Associated Management of Primary and Secondary Schools in Karnataka (KAMS) has complained to Education Minister Suresh Kumar about schools pressuring parents over fees and also conducting online classes.

In the letter, KAMS general secretary Shashi Kumar says Bengaluru schools such as Orchid, Jalahalli, and Regency, MS Palya, have sent parents messages and emails for payment of the next year’s fees, and are conducting online classes.

The letter notes that the government has barred collection of fees and admissions during the lockdown.

It calls for action against such schools, or relaxing the rule so that well-off parents can pay the fees.

Noting that online registrations are being done by online tutorials even before SSLC or PUC exams are over, the letter opines that parents are equally responsible in causing such ‘unhealthy’ developments.
