Bengaluru: Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds on Wednesday evening has caused significant damage to the city’s power infrastructure, with losses estimated at ₹87.32 lakh, according to officials.
The downpour led to widespread incidents of fallen trees and branches, damaging electricity poles, transformers, and overhead power lines across the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) limits.

Preliminary reports indicate that around 186 electricity poles, 38 transformers, and nearly 9 kilometres of power lines were damaged due to the storm. Within Bengaluru city limits alone, the damage is estimated at approximately ₹50.52 lakh.
BESCOM teams have been deployed across affected areas and are working on a war footing to restore electricity supply. However, restoration efforts are taking time as multiple locations across the city reported similar damage, stretching manpower and resources.
Officials said that fallen trees blocking roads and access points have further slowed repair work, though teams are actively clearing debris and fixing damaged infrastructure.
Authorities have assured that power supply will be restored in all affected areas at the earliest, while urging citizens to remain cautious around damaged electric lines and poles during such weather conditions.
