BJP Karnataka President BY Vijayendra Travels by Bengaluru Metro Responding to PM Modi’s Call for Fuel Conservation
Bengaluru: Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nationwide appeal for fuel conservation and austerity measures amid global economic uncertainty, Karnataka BJP President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra travelled by Bengaluru Metro on Friday.
Vijayendra travelled from Majestic to Challaghatta/Kengeri corridor by Metro while heading to participate in a party programme at Kumbalagodu.
The move comes as BJP leaders across the country begin adopting measures aimed at reducing fuel consumption following the Prime Minister’s recent call for “limited usage” and increased use of public transport.
BJP Leaders Adopting Austerity Measures
According to BJP leaders, several NDA-ruled states have already initiated measures to reduce official vehicle usage and fuel expenditure.
Senior BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, have reportedly reduced convoy vehicles and adopted austerity practices in line with the Centre’s appeal.
Former Karnataka Minister R. Ashoka had also stated earlier that the number of official vehicles would be reduced wherever possible.
Vijayendra Says PM Modi’s Appeal Is Timely
Speaking to reporters, B.Y. Vijayendra said Prime Minister Modi’s appeal was made after carefully assessing the global economic situation and the impact of ongoing geopolitical tensions, particularly the conflict involving the United States and Iran.
“The Prime Minister has urged citizens to seriously think about fuel conservation and austerity because global developments are affecting economies across the world, including India,” Vijayendra said.
He noted that even the Prime Minister himself had reduced protocol-related vehicle usage, and BJP national leadership was also following similar measures.
Push for Public Transport Usage
Vijayendra described the shift towards public transport as a positive initiative and said greater use of Metro and other public transport systems could help reduce fuel consumption and traffic congestion.
The BJP leader’s Metro journey drew public attention amid the ongoing national debate over rising petrol and diesel prices and calls for reduced fuel dependency.
Party Leaders Present
During Vijayendra’s Metro journey, Bengaluru North District BJP President S. Harish was also present.
