Massive Fire Breaks Out at Bengaluru School Building; No Casualties Reported as Campus Was Closed for Holidays
Bengaluru, May 30: A major fire broke out at a private school building in Bengaluru’s Visvesvaraya Layout near Jnana Bharathi on Friday, triggering panic in the area and sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky.
The incident occurred at Kaushalya School, where the blaze reportedly engulfed the fifth floor of the building. Dramatic visuals from the scene showed flames shooting out from the top floor while dense black smoke billowed across the surrounding area.
According to preliminary information, the fire is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit in the school’s auditorium located on the upper floor. The flames spread rapidly, causing extensive damage to a portion of the building before firefighters brought the situation under control.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported. School authorities said the institution was closed for summer holidays, preventing what could have been a major tragedy. Staff members present on the premises evacuated safely after noticing the fire and immediately alerted emergency services.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the spot and launched firefighting operations. Police from the Jnana Bharathi Police Station also reached the scene and assisted in securing the area.
Officials said the fire has largely been brought under control, though cooling operations were continuing. The exact extent of property damage is yet to be assessed.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the precise cause of the fire. Preliminary findings point to an electrical short circuit, but a detailed inspection will be carried out before a final conclusion is reached.
The incident has once again raised concerns over fire safety measures in educational institutions, particularly ahead of the reopening of schools after the summer vacation.
