Bengaluru: In a major security breach at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, a 27-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle drugs and SIM cards into the jail under the pretext of visiting an inmate.

The accused, identified as Ritika Rai, was apprehended by police after security personnel found suspicious items in her possession during a routine check at the prison entrance.

According to officials, the incident took place on March 26, when Ritika arrived at the prison around 4:30 PM and obtained a visitor’s pass to meet an undertrial prisoner named Farhan Khan. However, her behaviour near the main gate raised suspicion among security staff.

Acting on the suspicion, female security personnel conducted a detailed body check, during which they recovered three SIM cards and approximately 30 grams of ganja concealed on her person. The items were allegedly hidden inside her clothing.

Following the recovery, prison authorities immediately alerted Parappana Agrahara Police Station, and Ritika Rai was taken into custody. An FIR has been registered, and further investigation is underway.

Officials suspect that the accused may have been part of a larger supply network facilitating the entry of contraband items such as mobile phones, SIM cards, and drugs into the prison. Investigators are now probing whether she was supplying only to the inmate she intended to meet or to a wider group of prisoners.

The case has once again highlighted ongoing concerns about illegal activities inside prisons, including the use of mobile phones and narcotics by inmates. Authorities believe that such contraband is often smuggled in through visitors or, in some cases, with the involvement of corrupt insiders.

Further investigation is in progress to identify other links in the network and to tighten security measures within the prison system.
