Bengaluru: In a significant crackdown on online child exploitation, the Karnataka Cyber Command has arrested two individuals for allegedly creating and distributing Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) through digital platforms.

The operation was carried out by the Cyber Crime Police Station of Bengaluru South District and is being viewed by investigators as a rare case in which the alleged creators and uploaders of exploitative material were directly apprehended, rather than only consumers or forwarders of such content.

Case Registered After NCRP Complaint

According to police, the investigation began after a complaint was received through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) regarding suspected production and circulation of exploitative content involving minors.

Based on the complaint, Kaggalipura Police registered a case on May 10, 2026, and launched an investigation.

Two Minor Girls Exploited

Investigators found that two minor girls were allegedly exploited, with the acts reportedly recorded using mobile phones before being uploaded online.

Following technical analysis and victim statements, a specialised investigation team led by Police Inspector Vasanthkumar K. tracked down and arrested the two accused on May 12, 2026.

The arrested accused have been identified as: Kiran Kumar (29), originally from Chitradurga district and currently residing in KaggalipuraAditya M.K. (20), a swimming pool maintenance worker from Shivamogga district, presently residing in Channapatna Taluk.

Karnataka Cyber Command Statement

Dr. Pronab Mohanty, IPS, Director General of Police, Cyber Command, stated that this was among the very few cases where the original creators and uploaders of CSAM content had been successfully traced and arrested.

Mobile Phones Seized, Stringent Charges Added

Police seized three mobile phones allegedly used in the commission of the offence.

Initially, the FIR was registered under Sections 67 and 67(B) of the Information Technology Act. Subsequently, more stringent provisions were added under:

  • Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 65(2) and 70
  • POCSO Act Sections 4(2), 5(L), 5(M), 6, 14 and 15

The accused were produced before a court and remanded to police custody for further investigation.

Police said efforts are ongoing to identify possible digital links, online circulation channels and any additional persons connected to the case.
