Vijayendra claims Karnataka could see ‘West Bengal-like result’, attacks Congress at Haveri protest
Bengaluru/Haveri, July 16: Karnataka BJP president and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra on Thursday questioned whether only minorities had voted to bring the Congress to power in the state.
He was speaking at a major protest organised here against what he described as the “anti-Hindu Congress government”. Vijayendra said there was a need to raise a voice in support of Hindus and create awareness. He also said a protest would be held in Bengaluru on Friday against the proposed Bidadi township formation.
Referring to West Bengal, Vijayendra alleged that Hindus were being subjected to “mass killings” under the Mamata Banerjee government. He said that under the guidance of the party’s national president Nitin Naveen and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP workers had uprooted the “anti-Hindu” Trinamool Congress government there.
He expressed confidence that BJP workers in Karnataka had the strength to defeat what he called the “anti-Hindu Congress party” and ensure a BJP victory whenever elections are held in the state. “There is no question of our workers losing heart,” he said.
Vijayendra also criticised the state government over the Bidadi issue, alleging that the Congress government was working against farmers there.
He said that when B.S. Yediyurappa was Chief Minister, his government had taken pro-farmer decisions and had given people higher compensation without waiting for NDRF funds. He added that former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had implemented Raitha Vidyanidhi and governed in the interests of farmers.
Vijayendra also attacked Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, alleging that he was “a Chief Minister concerned about real estate, not about farmers”.
Former Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai, who also addressed the protest, condemned what he described as atrocities against Hindus. He criticised the Congress government, saying it was a “bankrupt government” and alleging that it had no money.
Bommai further alleged that the government had failed to respond to the distress of farmers who grow food for the people. He recalled that when Yediyurappa was Chief Minister, the BJP government had provided compensation higher than the prescribed amount.
He described the present government as “anti-farmer” and “anti-women”, and called on party workers not to rest until the Congress government was removed and a BJP government elected in its place.
Former minister Byrathi Basavaraj, district president Virupakshappa Ballari and other leaders were present.
