Sanitary measures can’t quell passenger fears

BENGALURU:

Despite government bus services, including Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), taking various precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the corona virus, their business has taken a beating. Reports indicate that KSRTC has seen a decline in passenger numbers, including those coming from other states.

A senior KSRTC senior official said, “The passenger count has come down due to Covid-19, as per reports by as much as 15-20 per cent. We have directed cleaning personnel at the depots to scrupulously clean the inside surfaces, including door handles, arm rests, etc, with chlorine or alcohol-based disinfectants. But even so, people are afraid to travel.”

According to reports, the passenger count has come down noticeably in the KSRTC premium AC services on long-distance routes. The corporation operates 800 premier services, including long-distance inter-state buses and a Fly Bus service to BIAL.
