The Syrian Defense Ministry announced the successful completion of a military operation against loyalists of ousted President Bashar al-Assad. Clashes between Assad loyalists and the Islamist-led government resulted in over 1,000 deaths, mainly civilians, in the coastal regions once dominated by Assad.
