‘High-handed’ S Basavaraju had been shunted out less than a week ago
BENGALURU:
Within the span of a week, Karnataka-born Chhattisgarh cadre IAS officer S Basavaraju, who was shunted out of BBMP for ‘high-handedly’ blocking public access to Mantri Square Mall, is back in the civic agency.
The state government’s DPAR has placed Basavaraju in concurrent charge as Special Commissioner (Revenue) until further orders in the existing vacancy.

The 2007 Chhattisgarh cadre officer was on March 6 posted as MD, Rajiv Gandhi Rural Housing Corporation Limited.
Basavaraju had come in the line of fire after he blocked public entry to Mantri Square Mall – the country’s largest shopping space – for purported default of Rs 32 crore in property tax payments for the last three years.
Basavaraju’s high-handedness had not gone unnoticed in official circles, as no provision of the Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act gives such unilateral powers to any BBMP official.
