Minority mob had vandalised DJ Halli police station and other property after allegedly provocative Facebook post
BENGALURU:
The NIA, in a joint operation with the Karnataka police, has arrested a person who was charge-sheeted in connection with the Bengaluru riots of August 2020 and was hitherto absconding.
The accused is Tabrez (35), resident of 13th Cross, Old Bengaluru Layout, Bengaluru.
The case was originally registered as FIR 195/2020 on August 12, 2020 at the DJ Halli police station under various sections of the IPC and other laws.

NIA took up case
On August 11, 2020, a minority mob protesting against an allegedly derogatory social media post about Prophet Mohammed had turned violent and attacked the police station with weapons and stones, burnt police vehicles and damaged government and private properties. NIA had re-registered the case as RC-34/2020/NIA/DLI on September 21, 2020 and taken up the investigation.
On February 5, 2021, NIA had filed a charge sheet before the NIA Special Court, Bengaluru under various sections of the law against 109 accused persons.
Member of SDPI
The investigation revealed that the accused,Tabrez, is a member of the Sagaipuram ward SDPI, a political outfit of Popular Front of India (PFI), and was involved in hatching the conspiracy to attack the DJ Halli police station, and had instigated many others on WhatsApp groups. He was also allegedly involved in burning vehicles and damaging public/private property
