MANGALURU, UDUPI: The man, who was lynched by a mob near Kudupu in Mangaluru for raising pro-Pakistan slogans during a cricket match was identified as Mohammed Ashraf, a resident of Pulpally in Wayanad district of Kerala. So far, the police have arrested 20 people in connection with the mob lynching.

The incident occurred on April 27 and the body of Ashraf was identified by relatives after which it was handed over to the family following an autopsy. It is said that Ashraf had consumed alcohol when he raised pro-Pakistan slogans during the cricket tournament.

On Wednesday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that anyone who raises pro-Pakistan slogans is committing an act of “treason”. The CM was teferring to the Mangaluru mob lynching incident and stated that a probe is going on in the matter and arrests have been made. “Whoever raises pro-Pakistan slogans, it is wrong, it is an act of treason. An investigation is under way”, the CM said.

Meanwhile, former minister and BJP Karkala MLA V Sunil Kumar, posted on X, “Pakistan is threatening war against India after the Pahalgam terrorist attack. But the enemies within the country are more dangerous than this. The mentality of some people living in this country eating the salt and saying ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ is worse than the external enemies”.

“Pakistan Zindabad’ slogan was raised in the mosque. There were pro-Pakistan slogans in the Vidhana Soudha too. Now there is love for Pakistan in the cricket field too. However, the state government is supporting such anti-nationals. Society condemns the police harassment of Hindu youth who condemned the act of chanting pro-Pakistan slogans on the cricket field”, the post read.
