People in 18-44 age group have to register on CoWin portal, walk-ins not allowed

Karnataka will ensure that all residents get the jab: Health Minister Sudhakar

BENGALURU:

Covid-19 vaccination will be provided to people in the 18-44 years age group at all major government hospitals and medical colleges from Monday, May 10, Karnataka Health and Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar said on Sunday.

Vaccinations for this age group will be provided at KC General Hospital, Jayanagar General Hospital and Sir CV Raman General Hospital, as well as at government medical colleges, ESI hospitals and NIMHANS in Bengaluru. In other districts, vaccination will be provided initially at district hospitals, government medical colleges and all taluk hospitals. The number of vaccination centres will be increased as and when more vaccines become available, the Minister said.

All vaccination centres will have an exclusive session earmarked for the 18-44 years age group. Vaccination will be provided to only those who have registered and scheduled an appointment on the Co-Win portal, and walk-ins will not be allowed, the Minister stated.

‘Wait your turn’

Reassuring people about the benefits of vaccination and appealing to the young population to get vaccinated, Dr.Sudhakar said, “The government is leaving no stone unturned to vaccinate each and every citizen at the earliest, and is making continuous efforts to secure supply of vaccines. I urge all citizens, especially my young friends, to wait for your turn and the government will ensure that you get your jab.”

Symbolic start on May 1

Earlier on May 1, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa symbolically flagged off the 3rd phase of the nationwide drive to vaccinate people in the 18-44 years age group. It is estimated that there are about 3.26 crore people in the state in this age group and, taking 2 jabs into consideration, it would require 6.52 crore doses to fully vaccinate this age group.

In order to fulfill this requirement, the state government has already placed orders for 2 crore doses of Covishield and 1 crore doses of Covaxin. Serum Institute of India, which manufactures Covishield, has already supplied 6.5 lakh doses of the vaccine. More consignments will be delivered by the second or third week of May.
