Karnataka Stops RT-PCR Negative Verification At Airports

The State Health Department that had made it mandatory for passengers arriving from Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab and Chandigarh to possess RT-PCR negative reports (not older than 72 hrs) has now stopped the process of verification of the the same at the airport.

However, the fresh order issued by the Karnatak Health department still makes mandatory for those with COVID -19 symptoms should carry a RT-PCR Negative Test Report.

Further, the airport authorities shall continue to ensure that the travelers strictly comply with the COVID Appropriate Behaviour in the interest of Public Health, the circular reads.

Earlier, in view of up surge in COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab and Chandighar, it was made mandatory for the passengers to possess RT-PCR negative report (not older than 72 Hrs) while arriving to Karnataka.

The concerned airways were made responsible to ensure that those who came had a negative report and those who arrived without the report were tested at the airport to prevent further spread.

“Now, as per the ICMR’s advisory on COVID-19 testing during the second wave and considering the current situation, the process of verifying the RT-PCR negative test report for individuals arriving from Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab and Chandigarh has been stopped. However, it is mandatory that those with COVID -19 symptoms carry an RT-PCR negative report,” Jawaid Akhtar, Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare department said in his circular issued on Friday.
