CM D.K. Shivakumar Assures Legal Solution to Agriculture Officer Recruitment Issue After Meeting GKVK Students
Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Tuesday assured agricultural students that the state government would take legal steps to resolve the recruitment issues surrounding Agriculture Officer and Assistant Agriculture Officer posts after personally meeting protesting students from the University of Agricultural Sciences (GKVK).
The students met the Chief Minister near the venue of the 14th Bengaluru INDIA NANO 2026 conference, where they submitted a memorandum seeking intervention in the recruitment rules governing Agriculture Officer appointments.
Noticing the students gathered outside the venue, Shivakumar invited them for a discussion under the shade of a tree, listened to their grievances in detail and sought information on the stage at which the recruitment issue had arisen.
After hearing their concerns, the Chief Minister assured the students that the government would ensure no injustice was caused to agriculture graduates.
“The recruitment issue has arisen because of amendments made to the recruitment rules during the previous BJP government’s tenure. I have instructed senior officials to examine the matter and resolve it legally without affecting the employment opportunities of agriculture graduates,” Shivakumar said.
He also appealed to the students to withdraw their protest, stating that the government was committed to creating employment opportunities and addressing their concerns through legal and administrative measures.
“Please call off the protest. Our government is committed to reducing unemployment, and we will ensure that your interests are protected,” he told the students.
The issue relates to the state’s recent notification inviting applications for more than 900 Agriculture Officer and Assistant Agriculture Officer posts. Students have objected to the eligibility criteria after candidates with B.E. and B.Tech qualifications in Biochemistry were also permitted to apply for the posts.
IT-BT and E-Governance Minister Priyank Kharge was also present during the interaction between the Chief Minister and the students.
