Bengaluru: The monsoon session of the Karnataka legislature is scheduled to be held at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru from August 11 to 22, as per official notifications issued by the state government. Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has formally summoned the Legislative Assembly and Council to convene at 11:00 AM on August 11.
The nine-day session is expected to be a politically charged one, with the opposition planning to corner the Congress-led government on several contentious issues. These include the RCB victory celebration stampede, in which lives were lost; the proposed new caste census; alleged discrepancies in the internal reservation survey for Scheduled Castes; and recent incidents of communal killings in coastal districts.
Sources suggest that the session will also see the tabling of several key legislations, including:
- The Karnataka Crowd Control Bill, 2025 (focused on managing crowds at public events),
- The Karnataka Rohith Vemula Bill, 2025,
- The Karnataka Misinformation and Fake News Prohibition Bill, 2025, and
- The Karnataka Hate Speech and Hate Crimes Prevention Bill, 2025.
These bills are expected to draw significant debate both within and outside the House, with civil society groups and political parties closely watching the session’s legislative agenda.
