Bengaluru: In a significant step towards sustainable waste management and promoting a circular economy, a Compost Purchase and Distribution Programme was launched today at the GBA Central Office Council Building in Bengaluru.

The initiative was inaugurated by A.N. Nataraj Gowda, Chairman of Karnataka Compost Development Corporation Limited (KCDCL). Addressing the gathering, he highlighted that the programme aims to transform urban waste management by converting city waste into valuable resources.

He stated that, in collaboration with KCDCL, the Greater Bengaluru IT Companies & Industries Association (GBITCIA), as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, is undertaking the purchase of organic compost produced in Bengaluru and distributing it free of cost to farmers through Maitri Sarva Seva Samiti.

Emphasising the importance of sustainable practices, Nataraj Gowda said that effective processing of urban waste and its conversion into useful compost is the need of the hour. The initiative will not only support environmental conservation but also enhance soil fertility and promote sustainable agriculture.

He further noted that the programme aligns with the vision of Karnataka Mission 2030, focusing on improving soil health and encouraging eco-friendly farming practices. By reusing urban waste, the initiative also promotes the concept of a “circular economy” and serves as a strong example of public-private partnership.

During the event, compost was symbolically distributed to farmers. Beneficiaries of the programme include farmers from districts such as Chikkaballapur and Kolar.

The event was attended by GBITCIA President Girish, CSR Head Vasudevan, representatives of Maitri Sarva Seva Samiti, and other industry leaders including Harish Babu and Vishal, along with several dignitaries from the industrial sector.
