BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court has issued a directive to refrain from taking coercive action against Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar in the case involving the alleged luring of apartment dwellers in RR Nagar. A High Court bench led by Justice Krishna S. Dixit heard the petition filed by Dy CM DK Shivakumar seeking the cancellation of the case registered against him at the RMC Yard Police Station.

Senior advocate Uday Holla represented the petitioner and argued against the accusations of voter baiting during an election speech. The Election Commission’s lawyer objected, claiming that DK Shivakumar had enticed voters by promising them benefits in exchange for their votes. The statement made by DK Shivakumar during the election campaign, promising to fulfill certain demands in return for votes, was highlighted during the proceedings.

The High Court intervened at this point, expressing concern over the deteriorating quality of election campaigning. The court instructed Uday Holla, the senior lawyer for DK Shivakumar, to caution against repeating such actions. The court also adjourned the hearing, directing that no coercive action be taken until the next hearing. The statement in question was made by the Deputy Chief Minister during the Bangalore Rural Lok Sabha election campaign.
