Officials review the Gunjur–Dommasandra–Varthur road widening project.
BENGALURU: Bengaluru East City Corporation Commissioner D.S. Ramesh has directed officials to complete a four-lane road on the available land along the Gunjur–Dommasandra stretch without waiting for the proposed six-lane development.
About 1.4 km of the 2-km stretch has been completed, including work on the Dommasandra side. Land acquisition and transfer of development rights (TDR) issues have stalled work on the remaining 600 metres.
At a review meeting on the Gunjur–Dommasandra–Varthur road widening project, Ramesh instructed officials to conduct a fresh survey of the pending stretch by October 8. Government and private property boundaries must be clearly marked on site using posts or red markings at intervals of 10–20 metres.
The review covered the 2-km Dommasandra–Gunjur stretch and the 1.9-km Gunjur–Varthur stretch, both forming part of State Highway 35. The Revised Master Plan 2015 envisages widening the road to 50 metres.
Land acquisition and compensation
Officials were directed to examine the official copy of the withdrawal of the TDR notification concerning 143 properties before deciding the next steps.
Near Varthur bridge, TDR has been issued for six of the 20 properties, while processing is underway for nine others. Ramesh asked officials to meet the remaining property owners and expedite the pending development rights certificates, referred to as Form-C/DRC.
For Property No. 34, where compensation under the 2013 land acquisition law has been deposited in court, officials were instructed to complete the necessary legal procedure and take possession with police protection.
Between Vinayaka Theatre and Vishal Mart, payments have been completed for 35 of the 65 properties. The commissioner directed officials to accelerate payments for the remaining 30.
Footpaths, drains and utility shifting
Temporary drains obstructing road construction must be connected to the main drain and cleared from the work area. Officials were also told to provide a pedestrian pathway at least two metres wide above the drains.
BESCOM was directed to shift the remaining electricity poles and one transformer within four days.
The commissioner also ordered an immediate examination of the trade licence, building permission and occupancy certificate of an HP petrol pump near Bellandur Amanikere that is obstructing road and ramp/viaduct construction. Action must follow under the applicable rules if violations are found.
Task force to push Varthur works
A special task force chaired by the commissioner has been constituted to accelerate Varthur road development and elevated corridor works, coordinate departments and address traffic problems.
It includes the additional commissioner, Deputy Commissioner of Police for traffic, chief engineers and officials from KRDCL, BESCOM and the Revenue Department.
The task force will expedite land acquisition, review construction progress, identify technical and physical obstacles, coordinate utility shifting and traffic management, and meet regularly to report on decisions, implementation and pending issues.
Additional Commissioner (Development) Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar, chief engineers and officials from the participating departments attended the meeting.
